One of my biggest gripes with non-NYC US cities is walkability It’s important to me because when you walk, or use public transportation, you see people you see their faces you have empathy. When you’re in a car you don’t see peoples faces, you mostly see only people that you choose to see.

I agree New York is not the most empathetic, but I will say it’s more empathetic than other cities in that you’re forced to deal with people. A good example of this is an Instagram account called humans of New York, which showcases the lives of people in New York. I’d say that’s pretty empathetic

I guess my point is less about the city and more about me - I’m more empathetic in a city It’s because I see people’s lives on their faces as I’m forced to use public transportation or walk, I see their stories, I feel for them more
