What if Farcaster is just a really good crypto forum—niche discussions, on-chain identity, solid UX. Basically Hacker News for crypto with a nice app. Maybe that’s all it needs to be. 🤔

I thinka new version of the bitcoin talk forum of 2012, or crypto twitter of 2020 would be a massive success. I don't understand why there's not 5 well-seeded, well-modded crypto channels (crypto news, trading/earning, defi, nfts, crypto x ai). With today's interest in crypto, there could be 100s of top influencers per category, 1000s of occasional contributors and Millions of passive followers who might even trade upon info. Obv that requires work but every crypto project has a niche discord or telegram with community mods and there's plenty of well-run telegram chats with mods. So, I consider this a miss - especially as Farcaster wants to target crypto users.

100% aligned with this. Channels suck right now — no bumping means active convos just die, mods having to approve every member kills momentum, and of course spam farming ruins the rest. Every good forum had thread visibility + low friction to join. Feels like a huge miss, especially for a crypto-native network.

💯 PS: I'm "afraid" if you have success with your degen client, farcaster will internalize the learnings and improve the warpcast client - which isn't a bad outcome but somewhat unthankful for 3rd party builders.

Yeah totally get that, and honestly I think success comes down to two things—ideas and execution. Both matter equally IMO (though yeah, some folks love to say “ideas are like assholes…” you know the rest 😅). Warpcast can definitely execute, no question there. But they’re building something way bigger—like a Telegram for the world. I’m trying to build something more niche, like a Hacker News for crypto-native degens. At the end of the day, I don’t have to answer to investors asking how we turn $150M into billions. I just want to build something fun, with a real use case for degens, that gives better distribution for the DEGEN chain and token. If we can hit even one of those, we’re already ahead of 90% of the meme coins out there. This isn’t the VC game. It’s the meme game. We don’t need revenue charts and KPIs—we need fun, virality, and a strong community. That’s the real north star. I’ll be thinking more on all this too as we build.
