How does this explain the tariffs though?

He says that canada gives the usa a discount to refine heavy crude oil because canada cannot process it. Even if we assume everything he says is true, why do tariffs make sense?

If we assume this is all true then it seems that Canada doesnt have another buyer and it’s costly for them to transport.

Tariffs would further lower the price that Canada sells the U.S. oil bc U.S. has all the leverage in this situation

I guess I don't buy the fent / immigration reason for tariffs on Canada's side.

Tariffs result in concessions or more trade wars, there's examples for both, so we'll see.

I think regardless this will accelerate political will and improvements to canada's already existing pacific pipeline to asia and reliance on the usa. I don't expect china to let this opportunity go to waste.
