when I was deciding to go out on my own i counted financial equity as a major upside but not social equity. that's been a big learning so far – i'm shipping things and recognition is accruing directly to my name and reputation. At previous co's i did the same but it accrued mostly to the brand and founders.

that's not a dig at companies or something, it was just unexpected how many intros and conversations I would get access to having 'founder' as my title. when you're in a company, you still accrue social equity, its just bound to the company and the coworkers you get to work with. and it carries less reputational risk, just like financial equity.
