We had a lot of microservices at my last gig. It wasn't uncommon to touch 8 repos in a single day. At one point I realized I can just open the entire parent directory in vscode and fuzzy search across it like a monorepo. Worked pretty well.

Is this pro or anti microservices? Is this pro or anti monorepo?

I’ve never worked in a company wide monorepo so my opinion is limited but I am very pro putting things that change together in the same repo. My experience with Microservices at 2500 engineer scale was fine. Had no issue shipping code and helped teams stay decoupled behind api contracts.

Chiming in from Google monorepo with fuzzy code search working across obscene amounts of code and text in fractions of seconds: it's gnarly and fantastic for learning and never gets old but man do I wish Gemini could tap into it
