I thought they voted to get rid of it in the EU right? But then something happened ... or did not happen? To be honest I do not know why it's still being observed.

The whole story is even weirder - the parliament voted because the European Commission had organised an online vote for all EU citizens, where 84% voted in favour of abolishing.
