the worst conventional wisdom in crypto is: "blockchains will fade into the background and people won't care which one they are using" (Exhibit A: there were 6 NFT Marketplaces on Terra chain)

People won’t care which ones they are using. Developers will. I don’t think there’s a universe where we get to mainstream adoption if people have to care about the chain things are on.

It's irrelevant to the end user, all they want is the thing they want done to be done. It would be as if web2 users had to care if you were built on AWS or Google Cloud, who cares?

what if the thing I want is what happens in the future? like "my NFTs will still exist in 10 years" or "the supply of these assets won't wildly inflate" again, returning to first example, do you think the people who had their NFTs on Terra cared what blockchain they were using?

People who had anything on Terra only cared about number goes up, let's be real. But those properties should be a given for users, not something they need to inspect the chain to see if they have. That's an argument for aligning on a single settlement layer, not user education
