email from plex (2 days after the stated date that it's supposed to start) they're requiring users to purchase remote viewing subscriptions to watch their friends content lol. plex has been going down the shitter for a while but this is next level fuckery

Wonder if it can be bypassed by setting up a VPN that treats the playback as local playback. Obviously doesn't help with things like Chromecast, but...

Oh, turns out the server owner just needs to get Plex Pass. > As a server owner, if you elect to upgrade to a Plex Pass, anyone with access to your server can continue streaming your server content remotely as part of your subscription benefits.

oh cool. yeah since they paywall hardware transcoding even iGPU (intel quicksync is overpowered) i have that but i noticed i paid $40 last year and i'm seeing $69 now on their page so maybe it was a sale idk. i guess that's not a big deal but still i hate what plex is i wish they just had a basic bare server with remote viewing the end. i don't need anything else, ill prob just convert to jellyfin at some point depends how lazy or broke i am when renewal comes around 🤣
