It’s subscription fatigue, essentially Then: i.e. DVDs in a world where ownership was cumbersome, streaming was a great innovation that made sense Now: in a world where I have to pay for rent for everything- it’d be nice to own the digital land I plow on once again.

In the world of DVDs as the popular medium, media metadata tagging and organization was rare to non-existent. Today, we have software like Jellyfin, Plex, and others to help organize your media. I think that'll be key in making digital ownership manageable as we seek also to not have to dedicate the space to owning 1000 movies in physical form. We just need studios selling content without DRM at an affordable price.
