one thing i've noticed is that the quality of content in channels has gotten a lot better now, if only users clicked into channels... there's got to be an idea here

I agree in part, however I think it is time to open a possible access route to the channels, you cannot maintain 200k followers and only 300 members, seriously there were 97% of spammers in those channels?

i think spammers fall into two categories 1. automated posting from bot accounts promoting projects/tokens, etc., or just farming for engagement/followers w ai generated llm/image content, or 2. off-topic conversations the first requires very strict gating, and the second requires a lot of moderately uncomfortable conversations i don't think either is a perfect solution, and the reality is that channel moderation is no one's full time job, but it's a lot of work to maintain quality trying different approaches is the only way to move forward

Looking at it from there, I agree with you, however, I think the second part is inevitable, taking over a channel means knowing the work it can entail, but we will see what it ends up resolving. Maybe making more people moderators could make the work easier, or relying on the modbot, that occurs to me.
