gm fellow casters. For the engineers out there, if given the choice between a take-home exercise and a live coding interview, which would you choose?

not an engineer, (tech recruiter) but candidates respond really really well to take-home exercises. they feel it's the most fair assessment, as well as the most enjoyable. it gives candidates the sense that you're interviewing w/ confidence and know what you're looking for.

Do you have stats on drop off rate for both options? I've had 2 candidates choose to do the take-home and then not do it, with no feedback on the exercise. I've got a small sample size but that's what prompted this question.

This is amazing, thanks so much! We're working with a sourcing recruiter from a VC. After that it's me doing the screening, and technical assessment before a 2ndary opinion from CTO and finally CEO. I explain this process in the screening if the candidate is interested

One candidate did accept another offer, the other I just never heard from again, so yeah that could be great signal that the person isn't reliable or that interested. I'm definitely not removing the option immediately, but...

I've decided to add the option to do live coding of an addition to a side project as another option, especially if I've been able to look at the candidate's Github ahead of time.
