Yeah it’s interesting, the framing is a bit dramatic but the idea of

“Tariffs are a tool to force companies and countries  to negotiate with Trump”

Makes sense to me. But there is also this other angle which seems to be really focused on empowering the American economy - I have a hard time believing that he doesn’t actually believe these tariffs are good for America. He’s more populist than power-hungry IMO, so he wouldn’t tank the economy to get power

Interesting, based on him and all his close advisors I get the opposite read. What about his moves make you think he’s not all about power and personal gain above all?

Maybe right curving this trying to find rational reasons. What do they care about public support when they are literally trying to upend democracy talking about a 3rd term 3 weeks in and disrupting decades of positive geopolitical alignment…just listen to Steve Bannon and Project 2025 and it’s all basically laid out

He definitely wants power but I think even he knows he can’t have power if the economy sucks, he loses all credibility and no one will want to associate with him

So the idea of tanking the economy for longer term political gain is confusing to me
