Learn Tahitian with /nash Thanks @paulcowgill and @jomessin for the incredible product you are building. I'm really so grateful to be able to apply this to my language studies. Some of the history of my ancestors moving to Tahiti: John and Susannah arrived in Tahiti during a transformative period. Tahiti was under the rule of the Pōmare dynasty, with increasing European contact. The Hunters likely interacted with missionaries, traders, and the Tahitian royal family, contributing to the small but growing European community. Their son Thomas Tamati Hunter moved to Raiatea (part of the Leeward Islands) and raised his family there, marrying a local woman and integrating further into Polynesian society. Susannah’s role as a teacher and her longevity (living into her 90s) made her a notable figure among settlers. The Hunters’ legacy is one of cultural fusion, with their descendants carrying both European surnames and Polynesian given names, reflecting Tahiti’s unique history.
