Random thought: "Absolute return" funds seem to be a great example of Wall Street attempting to reinvent the wheel. It's just a convoluted way of attempting to make an equity portfolio mimic a bond but with the added risk of blowing up on occasion and without much, if any, excess return over a bond portfolio in the first place. Why insist on vaulting backward over 10-foot hurdles when you can accomplish the same thing by simply stepping over 1-foot hurdles and taking on substantially less risk?
