Zelensky is ready to meet with Putin in Turkey on May 15. This was announced by the President of Ukraine himself. “We are expecting a ceasefire starting tomorrow – full and lasting, to provide the necessary foundation for diplomacy. I will be waiting for Putin on Thursday in Turkey. In person.” Despite Russia’s absurd demands, I believe Zelensky’s tactic is the right one. It shows the world that Ukraine is ready for peace, while any refusal or silence from Putin will expose Russia’s unwillingness to compromise.

I wonder what happens if a permanent ceasefire starts. It stops the bloodshed and gives each side the opportunity to consolidate, regroup, and entrench further, but it doesn’t solve the territorial question definitely. What follows could be a similar limbo to the NK/SK situation, but also a de facto victory for Putin who could then resettle the gained territories and claim them in perpetuity
