History

The idea of a world's fair traces back to a British society founded in 1754 by artist William Shipley, now the Royal Society of Arts. Below is the James Barry painting depicting the annual awarding of prizes. Shipley is seen seated lower left and Elizabeth Montagu standing centre left (women weren't barred from entry).

Some combination of wax and oil from the candles and lamps, wood from the furniture, possibly traces of food and beverage, and of course fine body odours partially masked by 18th century fragrances.

That last one is a big omission on my part. It would easily be the primary scent in the air.

If they also have horses parked outside there would be another layer of reality.
