Built by Nero after the Great Fire of 64 AD, the Domus Aurea embodies peak Ancient Rome, with a rotating dining room simulating the movement of the heavens and an artificial lake that likely hosted its own navy. The palace was buried following Nero's death, and the lake was drained to become the site of the Colosseum.

The fact that buildings in antiquity were constructed so intelligently and purposefully, and comparing that to modern architecture, causes me regret.

It’s the same with language, fashion. You can tell there was great value placed in things which are now deemed a nuisance. Earlier peoples took their time completing every sidequest they encountered, often perishing in the process.

I agree with you. And I think that when humanity stopped making a real effort to achieve civilization, it fell into a downward spiral.
