In 1821, the Greek War of Independence began, marking the start of Greece's struggle to break free from Ottoman rule. This conflict eventually led to the establishment of modern Greece. In 1967, during the Cold War, the "Glassboro Summit" took place in New Jersey, where President Lyndon B. Johnson and Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin held informal talks aimed at easing tensions between the superpowers. The eruption of Mount Tambora in 1815 in Indonesia caused the "Year Without a Summer" in 1816, leading to widespread crop failures and food shortages across the Northern Hemisphere. In 1919, the Great Molasses Flood occurred in Boston when a storage tank burst, sending a wave of molasses through the streets. This bizarre disaster claimed 21 lives and caused extensive damage. In 1797, the British naval ship HMS Hermione experienced one of the bloodiest mutinies in naval history. The mutineers killed nearly all the officers and handed the ship over to the Spanish.
