So anyone can mint anything I post? That can’t be right?

they could anyway (download and mint) but we're experimenting with making the most convenient way to do so, one where you get paid. the reasoning is that, as a creator, when you create something of value, you should "mint first, then distribute." you might post and then think, damn i should mint that, and now you can!

Yikes. We report those and get them banned on marketplaces. Highly doubt any artist will agree to have their work stolen and minted without their consent. I'd advise you to rethink that part cause that would be a legal nightmare for you.

would you report people who share your art for you to get paid? this is raising the type of conversation i had hoped for. like, now with L2s, preminting, and gas being so cheap, as an artist, i mint anything i create before sharing it anywhere else. because i want that timestamped provenance. minting is almost free now

Yes, a lot of us report large accounts who use our work to promote their page all the time. You're also leaving collectors out of the equation here. It would not benefit them in any way to have cheap duplicates of pieces they spent a lot of money on.

not so sure about that re: collectors. i've spent well over a million dollars on nfts. if anything, i view it in much the same way as luxury brands. they welcome counterfeit works. allows those who can't afford the real deal to *feel* like they can. it keeps the dream alive for admirers of the brand/artist
