The site was getting 125k MAU's from every major tech company in the world. I built a brand around the project and the repo was more respected and better maintained than GitHub's gitignore repo.

There is a large VC fallacy that you can just "clone a project" and it will be the same.

if you don't mind sharing, what did you sell it for? why did they buy this instead of just making a similar clone?
