Brazilian parliamentarian Julia Zanatta has issued a warning on social media that physical cash may face the risk of disappearing as the country advances the implementation of its central bank digital currency (CBDC) "drex". She opposes a bill that will gradually phase out cash by 2025 and advocates that the use of DREX should remain voluntary to protect economic freedom. Zanata emphasized several risks: social control, lack of privacy, and potential financial issues for individuals unfamiliar with technology. Zanata also called for raising public awareness and suggested that the future of Drex be decided through a referendum, emphasizing that this major change should involve citizens in decision-making. Currently, due to privacy concerns, the Drex pilot project is facing delays. @iftiti @sewingbee
