Today History # : Signing the Armistice Agreement for the Korean War The armistice agreement was signed on July 27, 1953, three years and a month after the outbreak of the Korean War and two years after the start of ceasefire negotiations. Lt. Gen. Harrison, the representative of the United Nations, and Nam Il, the representative of North Korea, signed 18 cease-fire documents. On June 22, President Lee met with U.N. Commander Clark and proposed three terms of Seoul's agreement on the truce: signing the Korea-U.S. mutual defense treaty, withdrawing Chinese troops immediately, and setting a deadline for the Geneva political talks. As the situation showed no signs of resolution, President Eisenhower sent Robert the envoy to Korea, proposing the condition that the two countries conclude a mutual defense treaty within this year, and winning approval for the July 24 ceasefire.
