Haven't been paying close attention; is this gas target increase result of compression within the blobs?

not a direct result, but it's one of the factors! the latest hardfork increased our blob efficiency ~25%, which means there's more blobspace for us (and everyone!).

Excellent. Love the continual push! A couple of years ago, I could never imagine eth being usable by the masses, and now it is!
