observation ~24 hrs out from the assassination attempt: the stigma of supporting trump online has for many suddenly vanished. some is no doubt short term memetic fervor but my instinct is that the event is sticky and norms have changed. curious how it trickles down irl. dinner party leftist and heartland cookout convos will remain predictable, each adhering to their own orthodoxy. a meaningful number of people on the fence or closeted trump folks though are probably unshackled, emboldened, feeling in their gut that there are fewer social consequences now for being outwardly supportive.

I don’t know. I think sometimes “conversation” on Twitter gets mistaken for actual conversation, not to mention actual humans. You might be right. But I think Twitter is now a pretty hardcore right wing bubble

it's a bubble for sure, why i was curious about the difference between online and irl behaviors. however, i think it's fair to say that we didn't see this level of overt support for trump in 2016 or 2020 online or anywhere... irl is at least partially downstream of online discourse. worth noting, observing.
