For service monitoring I am using kube-prometheus stack. Helm charts also available and first class. Deploys Grafana, Prometheus and has support for longterm storage/backup via Thanos. Works out of the box. Has alert manager too or you use Grafana for all https://github.com/prometheus-operator/kube-prometheus

Grafana can do visualization + alerting. would recommend hooking up pagerduty for most important all hands on deck notifications as that can actually do phone call style notifications. Telegram bot for easy notis or some other webhook integration where you have notis active on phone for non urgent

I currently use kube-prometheus exactly as described, then replicate important metrics to hosted grafana with their inbuilt paging. Partially this is because we operate many independent stamps.
