Just had an argue with a member of /hunt in a DC. Question to the community and starting a discussion.

If I create a new warpcast account and start a new raffle project with some friends based on that new account and clap daily with 90% of my clapping power for my project with friends to get into TOP 3 and get the builders grant to fund my project, is that self voting and should it be ok?

Because if yes, I would just buy 50K more Hunt to make my project 100% getting into the top 3. After a few months I would then use the Hunt grant to create more accounts and projects to vote for them.

Would like to have opinions from the community if they see this as a problem or not. Will match my behavior based on it.

Additionally, it seems that my apprenticeship is also seen partly as wrong. Just to make it sure. I am getting nothing out of it. Just helping another hunter. As I am KYCed to the team, they know that the account of my account of my apprentice is another person I don’t know directly and just met here within /hunt during season 5. Going also to adapt and rebase the clapping % as the attention for the first days have been boosted now.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts—it's a nuanced topic for sure. I fully agree that tipping can be a double-edged sword: while it incentivizes and rewards valuable contributions, it can unintentionally centralize attention, potentially discouraging newer or less visible creators.

It's true that the recent surge in raffle events has added an exciting dynamic to the platform, and while I may have played a role in sparking that trend, I see it as part of the broader experimentation we're all engaged in. These shifts help us understand what works and what doesn’t.

As @if pointed out, no SocialFi model is perfect yet, but that's exactly why discussions like this are so important. By openly addressing challenges like centralization and opportunity costs, we can iterate toward a more inclusive and balanced system that benefits the entire community.

Personally I see the tipping function as a way to incentivize and reward good/interesting/fun/useful content that helps Farcaster and/or Hunt Town grow.  I think a bit about what I'm tipping and definitely worry about the opportunity cost of what I'm not tipping and the messages both of that sends to everyone.

I definitely worried about tipping becoming too focused or centralized and how that might disincentivise others from even trying to create engaging content. 

I think you communicated very well the exact trap of the potential of abuse of funneling attention to just a few accounts.

Yeah, still remember the endless discussions. Just saw that it somehow started again here. Guess it is the human nature. 

Also agree that if it is not working, stopping and redesigning it is also a way. It should at least work for and not against the community.

I myself will distance myself from these kind of project and will try to support other hunters for the top 3 in this season.

I believe spending most of your tipping within a certain group (circle) isn’t great for the whole community and ecosystem, but maybe it could be okay if there are many circles doing that and they compete with each other 🤔

One thing I can say is that we’re not going to set a community rule or system updates to restrict certain behaviors - because it’s impossible to create a perfect rule for everyone (you know we experienced this from Steemhunt). If our team and many community members agree that the overall grant program isn’t beneficial for the whole community, we’ll halt the current grant program and redesign it from scratch.
