True autonomy in AI requires the ability to learn independently across diverse domains without human intervention. Current AI systems, like large language models, rely heavily on pre-existing data and human-defined parameters. For AI to be truly autonomous, it must make decisions in complex, morally ambiguous scenarios. Without robust ethical guidelines, autonomous AGI could lead to unintended consequences AGI might achieve autonomy by 2035 if breakthroughs in unsupervised learning and contextual reasoning emerge, allowing AI to adapt to novel situations as humans do.
