what's the goal with hub storage requirements? there a way to run a "light" hub that discards old storage? (i mainly run my node to be able to submit new posts to the protocol through it.)

Hubs already discard messages outside of an fid’s storage limits This project by @noctis lets you customise what your hub stores and how it stores it. I think it functions as a light client out the box (haven’t tried it yet) https://github.com/noctisatrae/farseer

oh very cool i'll check it out! you know what the expected growth for data (total storage limits) on the network is? (just increased my node volume to 200g but was like "where is this going to end at" 😅)

It’s only going higher. Can expect 10-100x as the number of DAUs increases over the next few years. Not very optimistic about the decentralisation of hubs for this reason tbh

even though it goes against my original assumption/understanding of what fc is trying to become, interestingly channels might become a good federation strategy no? "only sync accounts that have interacted with channel(s) + content from channel(s)".

maybe at the client level it becomes so. what's more interesting is with FID 2 channels, aka parentUrl can be any online resource entity, so you could use farcaster hubs to store decentralized comments like disqus, dan and others where recently saying this. Imagine the vv signature thing but it also publishes with parentUrl homepage etc so its not only onchain, but also on hubs from there on
