"A new study, published in Frontiers of Neuroscience, suggests that exposure to bright outdoor lights at night could significantly increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, particularly for those under 65.
For younger adults, the study found that light pollution was more strongly linked to Alzheimer's risk than other factors like alcohol abuse, chronic kidney disease, and obesity.
In seniors, while diabetes and high blood pressure remained stronger risk factors, light pollution outweighed several other common health concerns.
The researchers theorize that artificial light disrupts the body's biological clock and sleep patterns, potentially leading to cognitive decline.
