I honestly understand why there’s a rift between tech people and everyone else in SF. Tech wishes it could turn this place into some clean, orderly, perfect techno-utopia but SF is fundamentally not that.

SF is a complicated, confused, crazy city that will always be trying to figure out what it is and what it wants to be (just like the people in it), but that’s the whole point. Tech looks at SF as if they’re missionaries coming to preach to a remote tribe and “show them the way”. They assume they know the city wants things one way because its the way they want things.

Id highly recommend everyone go door knocking for a campaign at least once. I did it yesterday (for Michael Lai, 10/10). Just like “talk to users”, talking to random people from the voter rolls is instantly clarifying.

Standard practice in all political campaigns: go door to door > talk to them or leave a flyer if nobody’s home. best case they’re a big fan and you sign them up to donate or volunteer
