Yeah ofc the idea is you have an app that users recognize have value to them but need to get in the habit of opening it.

Big energy if dau metrics has a genuine benefit to the user like Duolingo. The value exchange still needs to be there. Have you seen any great examples so far @jackmcdermott. Stacking with leaderboards like /perl is doing is in interesting example.

duolingo is one of the best habit formers on the planet

When we added streaks to the Disco GM Leaderboard last year, they were awesome for retention/onboarding - but only insofar as they were related to other credentials/rewards

appears to be an effective retention tactic if it represents progress in the intrinsic motivation for using the app (learning a language, connecting with friends). wouldn't employ it otherwise.
