What if Farcaster is just a really good crypto forum—niche discussions, on-chain identity, solid UX. Basically Hacker News for crypto with a nice app. Maybe that’s all it needs to be. 🤔

I thinka new version of the bitcoin talk forum of 2012, or crypto twitter of 2020 would be a massive success. I don't understand why there's not 5 well-seeded, well-modded crypto channels (crypto news, trading/earning, defi, nfts, crypto x ai). With today's interest in crypto, there could be 100s of top influencers per category, 1000s of occasional contributors and Millions of passive followers who might even trade upon info. Obv that requires work but every crypto project has a niche discord or telegram with community mods and there's plenty of well-run telegram chats with mods. So, I consider this a miss - especially as Farcaster wants to target crypto users.

I think important channels shouldn't be controlled by individuals. For example, the /crypto channel doesn't accept any members, and even though it has a general crypto name, it used to delete posts for any reason.

Moderation is important and posts that break the rules should be deleted. But it feels more fair to let anyone join and only ban people if they actually violate the channel rules.

at least let anyone with basic proof of "good intent" join whether that's a high neynar score, good followers, solved quiz, proof of personhood AND let others join upon approval through an obvious system (should be the same for all channels: click to join, read requirements, rules, fulfill and join). Some (automated & manual) entry/chat filters/bans are important. Not a new problem, can literally build on tg/discord/facebook social media netiquette, chats & bots xp.

But sometimes the rules are not appropriate and are more based on the owner's preferences. For example, in the crypto channel, it was stated that the discussion should be only about crypto and no charts should be included. Naturally, when discussing crypto in general, the main aspect of the conversation is always about price and charts.
