Blockchain scalability is a critical issue. Layer 2 solutions like Lightning Network and state channels offer speed and cost efficiency but at the cost of additional complexity. Sharding, used by Ethereum 2.0, divides the network to handle more transactions but requires careful design to maintain security. Each method brings unique tradeoffs, with no perfect solution yet.
