Is your career path linear or nonlinear?

Some people have careers that follow a straight line—each job is just a step toward a better role. For others, the path twists and turns, taking unexpected detours. As the world changes, so are career paths. There are a lot more people doing side gigs and starting small businesses. 

My own career path has been anything but traditional. I skipped college to run a pizza franchise and when that didn’t work out, I taught myself SEO. That led to a combination of side gigs, businesses, and now a more traditional career. My struggles with addiction made this journey more difficult but also taught me invaluable skills that I use everyday. 

How has your career path shaped you? Has it been a straightforward journey, or has it taken a few unexpected turns along the way? What lessons have you learned?

Mine has been almost as linear as it can be. 

7 years hr, 2 years health insurance, 1 year hr. The insurance just gave me a leg up on how that process works.

Sometimes linear is good, but isn't for every career.
