not super familiar with esports myself, but sync nature of esports doesn't lend itself to async nature of the internet imo

yup. long-tail searches for "GAME XX" much more than "GAME EVENT YY"

What’s interesting is that gaming on YouTube is more async and does fairly well. 

However, in esports the live nature gives poor replay value for sponsors and TOs generally after the initial broadcast. General content creators get much more eyes on them and were seen as better value for a long time.
