for this experience here: https://medium.com/@ethoswallet/abundance-scarcity-ai-crypto-98ca12e7afaf And you can try it out here (though it requires joining the Sui Discord to get Sui tokens): https://capy.ai

a fun experience that combines AI with crypto on the Sui blockchain (which is currently in TestNet Wave 2). It's just a fun project, but sometimes it helps to do fun projects as you wrestle with these larger concepts. I wrote about the inspiration 2/3

It seems recently there's a competition between AI and crypto for the most important modern technological advancement. I think it's a bit of a distraction from the larger picture of how our digital lives are evolving and becoming more powerful and robust. We recently put together 1/3

Fun discussion about programming languages (nice mix of history, strategy, and analysis of different languages): https://podcasts.apple.com/gy/podcast/programming-languages-crypto/id1622312549?i=1000597289143

Personally I think the pandemic had such an outsized impact on this as to completely discount comparisons like this on any other correlated factor...

scarcity or abundance because not only will scarcity always exist, but it becomes more pronounced through digital abundance and, as humans, we both want and need it. We just need to try and figure out how to keep it somewhat balanced somehow...

scarcity arising out of that digital abundance because most of what is created through AI is not great and the few great things get a lot of attention. This draws more people into an arena that they will struggle to succeed in. I think these challenges are quite difficult and unfortunately it's not really about 6/x

I think that's a different problem than the question of whether digital scarcity is potentially valuable. I do think digital scarcity is valuable, potentially very valuable, but if the scarce resources are distributed very unevenly it can cause big problems. Digital abundance can help with that, but you still see 5/x

So creating digital scarcity in many ways is a powerful way to level the playing field as it's so easy for people to engage in the digital realm. Unfortunately the accessibility of the digital realm also creates winner-take-all dynamics where the best song gets far more attention than the second best.

We value those differences in different ways which will result in collaboration or attraction between people, etc. In many ways we need scarcity that is more merit-based (based on our actions rather than our genetics) to even the playing field. 3/x

On its face it would seem that creating abundance is better than creating scarcity, but scarcity plays an important role in any group of sentient beings that have complex motivations. Scarcity always exists and will always exist. We're different from each other and those differences are examples of scarcity. 2/x

I've been wrestling a bit with the idea of scarcity recently, especially as it relates to crypto and AI. Crypto is in many ways about creating scarcity in the digital realm, while AI recently has been more about increasing the abundance of creativity in the digital realm. 1/x

More and more I'm starting side projects with a quick chat with OpenAI. Bounce a few ideas around, get some sample code, learn about a few relevant libraries...

Are there any companies working on making it super easy to train an AI on specific data?

The chess doesn't yet calculate check or checkmate. Still thinking about how to do that efficiently, but I think all of the other rules are captured. It's all open source if you want to check it out.

Having a lot of fun thinking about how the blockchain's potential for permanence can be leveraged. It immediately made me think of chess and having important if not all games on chain to study. So I built out fully on-chain versions of chess and checkers: https://twitter.com/EthosWalletXYZ/status/1592952874329591808

It sucks how much predictions about the future in silicon valley are still based on rough pattern matching, especially around the way you look.

I'm a bit surprised by all the pessimism about crypto following FTX. Human beings making bad decisions will always result in bad outcomes. We haven't even begun to understand the potential benefits (and challenges) that the underlying tech of crypto can offer humanity.
