I have a question for US ppl: It feels like for most of these shows, there was the "white version" & the "black version". Were they watched by either demographic equally or was the viewership also fairly segmented? I'm asking cause we had those shows dubbed in France too, and everybody was watching them!

Do you mean like sitcoms that were geared towards a particular audience? I remember back in the day step by step played right after family matters (I believe) There was a focus on bringing programming towards a minority audience. That tends to be the start of “black tv” and “white tv”

Every so often you’ll see the same thing (real housewives of Atlanta or Potomac v. Real housewives of New Jersey for example) because it’s the same (white male creatives like another person said) looking to cater to those different audiences
