The next big breakthrough in AGI will be self-directed learning and reasoning, where AI can adapt, set its own goals, and learn autonomously. Advances in causal reasoning, embodied AI, and autonomous AI agents will push AGI closer. Estimates suggest early AGI could emerge by 2030-2040.
