This question followed by "What do you do?" have been the most daunting questions ever directed at me.

I instantly become tense and defensive. I stammer. My stomach turns. It's a whole mess.

I know I'm a writer but I don't say it out because I'm Nigerian and nobody takes that seriously unless you're making good, steady money from it.

I'm building my confidence as a writer first, then as a producer. 🤭

this question used to trip me up too, but then i started responding with "right now i'm into XYZ"

adding "right now" made me include activities or books or shows or ideas that i interested me more recently or in the present, vs thinking about it on a larger scale. helped a lot!
