Farcaster is a decentralized social network built on the Ethereum blockchain, providing users with complete control over their data. It integrates web3 features, requiring an Ethereum address to create an account, which is used to sign messages and publish posts. User account data is stored on-chain via smart contracts on the Optimism mainnet, while posts and replies are stored off-chain on Farcaster's storage network, known as Hubs.
One of its standout features is user sovereignty, allowing users to manage their usernames on-chain through the Ethereum Name Service (ENS), ensuring their identity cannot be revoked by a central authority.
