These are photos from 20 years ago to the day, of Michael Rooker “celebrating” his 50th birthday on the set of the first movie I directed, Slither. He was in pain the whole time (the makeup and those other folks were putting a lot of their weight on him). He couldn’t pee for hours on end. And still he sat there, all zen, eyes blanked out between setups, and when the cameras rolled, did his thing, acting like the pro he is. I knew then I’d forever have his back, and I have. Since then we’ve done at least 10 movies together, 2 reality shows, 2 television series, a video game, and more. More importantly, we’ve become brothers, traveling the world together, celebrating holidays and weddings and birthdays, and have been there for each other when we needed someone. Today is this crazy son-of-a-bitch’s 70TH birthday, and he’s more full of life and energy than most 20-year-olds I know. Happy Birthday, Rooker. Love you, pal. Now don’t expect me to be saying nice things about you for another 20 years. 0 reply
