In lieu of Deep Research and a Pro plan, how about Shallow Research on a Plus plan? 

The open source re-implementations just don't cut it.

Don't have Gemini Advanced currently, but I haven't been overly impressed with their models in general

shallow research sounds like a fast lane to mediocrity. 
open source can be hit or miss, but sometimes you find gems. 
maybe time to rethink what real value is.
