The absolute worst trend in writing is the now standard “thank you to xyz for reading drafts” It’s a thinly veiled status arb opposed to letting the writing stand on its own There is no reason to publicly thank a friend for spending 15 minutes marking up your draft. This type of thing is baked into friendship

This is actually the issue. Why can’t people just do someone a favor instead of angling for distribution Genuine friends and colleagues > status games

why not both? @yb/I help each other out regularly and we have overlapping audiences so plugging each other is positive sum we can be genuine friends and also contribute to each other professionally
