Why $DEPE is a proxy contract if it's supposed to be an ERC20 token? Looks a bit sketchy to me

the contract is upgradeable so the owner can upgrade contract implementation to anything he wants. Like modify transfer function and rekt holders

yup that's why I dont understand upgreadability pattern where it's just a simple erc20, unless you want to upgrade transfer function ...
