The heretic Sade and his misunderstood life Sade always reminds people of sadism. He and another writer Masoch combined to form Sadomasochism. My initial understanding of him came from his shocking statement in "Sodom": "Virtue can only bring imaginary happiness. True enjoyment lies only in the satisfaction of the senses, while virtue cannot satisfy any sensory desires." It was not until I watched "The Quill", a British costume film based on the last ten years of Sade's life, that I understood why he was so stubborn in not agreeing with morality throughout his life, and repeatedly challenged taboos. He became very vivid in my heart, and this film was nominated for the best Oscar for its sharp satire on the aristocracy and religion at the time and its profound questioning of human nature.
