😂 In all seriousness, the debate over whether central banks should be independent versus run by the elected gov is a profound one. 

I increasingly lean toward having the Treasury handle such functions instead — would be more transparent/democratic/accountable (and it’s not like the Fed has a great track record)

The Fed’s independence can sometimes look more like insulation from public scrutiny than insulation from politics
