From what I can gather federated systems offer some advantages in terms of unified governance, coordination, efficiency, security, compliance, scalability, and accountability but they may also come with some drawbacks, such as reduced autonomy for individual entities compared to a fully decentralized system which is a big factor. Farcaster is a decentralized network which might ultimately head towards oligopoly but I would take that over a federated system as there is full autonomy.
