1/3 The parable of Chesterton’s Fence suggests that we should not remove metaphorical fences without first gaining a deep understanding of why they exist in the first place.

It’s an act of humility to recognize that, no matter how smart we are, we must acknowledge that other smart people preceded us and thought deeply about solving some problem, leading to the fence being erected.

It’s an act of giving credit to inter-generational wisdom, not blind deference to traditions for their own sake (they are nothing more than peer pressure from dead people after all).
