Epica is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded in 2002 by Mark Jansen, a former member of After Forever. Her original singer, Helena Michaelsen (formerly Trail of Tears), was replaced by Simone Simons in 2003. The band's name was inspired by the title of the sixth album by American band Kamelot.
