Honestly, I was racking my brain, but this is all I could come up with atm:

A shoehorn.

 I'd never need it—I just jam my feet into my sneakers, no problem. But every time I have guests over and they're about to leave, they always ask, “Got a shoehorn? Oh well...” And then there's a very dramatic moment as they sigh and untie their shoelaces.
One time, I hosted an exchange student from Duluth, and he was like, “WHAT IS THAT?? I NEED ONE.” He went back to the US with a shoehorn in his suitcase.
